Welcome to my website. My name is Dr. Colin Brietzke (brit-ski) and I am a practicing Chicago Neuropsychologist. I have created this site to answer your questions about what neuropsychologists do, as well as to provide you with additional information on various disorders. You will find that my practice differs from others you may have visited because, in my approach, I try to make an otherwise anxiety-provoking situation as relaxing and interactive as possible
Today’s neuropsychologists work in a very different way than our predecessors did. We have more high-tech options than ever before, which lead to more accurate diagnoses, and better patient outcomes. In the end, however, I pride myself on my practice being high-touch, meaning that I create a very interactive and pleasant process for the people I evaluate. It is important to me that you (or your loved one) be comfortable with the process
It is not always clear what neuropsychologists do or how we can be of most benefit to our patients. Neuropsychological testing involves measuring the brain’s cognitive abilities or “thinking” skills through a series of puzzles, games, and tasks. The goal of neuropsychology testing is to get an accurate assessment of your (or your loved one’s) brain functioning with respect to:
Neuropsychologists use this objective data to provide effective means to overcome the hurdles you face. In the end, it often comes down to simply using an individual’s strengths to overcome their challenges. However, the only way to determine those strengths and weaknesses is through a neuropsychological evaluation. Neuropsychological testing frequently yields results that clarify or simplify previous diagnoses, allowing for more streamlined approaches to treatment. On other occasions, this kind of accurate diagnosis makes it clear that a certain medication is or is not necessary.
Traditional neuropsychologist’s testing procedures can also be integrated with the latest advances in brain mapping procedures that offer us an even greater degree of diagnostic precision, as well as dramatically expanded opportunities for treatment.
My goals are simple. I want to help my patients understand exactly what has been causing them difficulty and provide them with solutions using their measured strengths to make up for their weaknesses. Only neuropsychologists can provide this, and few neuropsychologists provide the kind of thoughtful, precise, and effective recommendations I do.
If you would like to find out how a local Chicago neuropsychologist can help you, simply fill out the contact form or call today, and I will be happy to set up an initial evaluation. For your convenience, I maintain offices in downtown Chicago and Elmhurst.
